The leaves of the moringa – the “miracle tree” as it is known – are brilliant green with a mild flavor. Combined with pineapple it is particularly flavorsome: smooth and aromatic, like a tropical cocktail.
Moringa oleifera goes by many names: miracle tree, tree of life, horseradish tree (because its roots smell like horseradish) and even drumstick tree, because of its seedpods, which hang downwards and resemble drumsticks.
The moringa tree originates from the Himalayan region of northwestern India but is now cultivated in more than 80 countries worldwide. The tree has been used in India for some 5000 years and is an integral part of ayurvedic medicine. Hardly surprising, because according to Indian popular belief, moringa can heal more than 300 complaints.
Moringa leaves have a very distinctive flavor. Pieces of apple and pineapple give the complex tea blend pleasant, fruity notes, while ginger adds a touch of spice.
